Data protection comes first

In the past, the company relied on a popular US‑based mapping service. “It turned out to be relatively expensive, and achieving GDPR compliance was complex”, explains Philipp Klusmeier. “On top of that, there was no direct point of contact. We could only submit inquiries via an email hotline and sometimes waited a long time for a reply. That wasn’t ideal for us — we wanted a solution that truly represented our brand.”

Together with a long‑standing IT agency, the project team led by Philipp Klusmeier evaluated several alternatives. The decision ultimately fell on SmartMaps. “What convinced us most was the GDPR compliance, which is a top priority for us, along with the outstanding price-performance ratio and the excellent technical documentation”, says Klusmeier.“

Europe-wide rollout

The simple API integration of SmartMaps enables a modular and flexible adaptation of the mapping solution within existing system environments. Working closely with the reifen.com IT team, the supporting agency was able to develop a custom workshop finder perfectly aligned with the company’s vision.
Step by step, a tailored workshop search was created — first launched in France, Italy, the Benelux region, and Denmark, and later expanded to the DACH region. Customers can now easily find workshops nearby by entering a city name or postal code. Each result provides comprehensive workshop details, including an interactive map view, direct contact options, opening hours, services offered, pricing, and payment methods.

Fast support at lower costs

Another key difference compared to the previously used US mapping service: SmartMaps is GDPR-compliant by design and ensures that there is no tracking and no permanent use of user data. "This gives us the confidence that our workshop finder operates fully GDPR-compliant. At the same time, the user experience is improved: the map loads immediately, without requiring an additional consent click." On top of that, switching to SmartMaps has resulted in significant cost savings, which Klusmeier quantifies at more than 50%.
